Are You Loosing Money Through Your Roof? Loft insulation might not be the most exciting topic you can think of but if you want to cut down on your energy costs and do your bit for the environment then its one of the best places to start. We all like to heat our homes on a chilly day but where does your heat go? Although you might think that the majority of your heat stays indoors, in fact your home is losing heat all the time. Your front door is not the major culprit however, as little as 3% of the heat in your home actually escapes through the doors. The most heat is lost through the walls and roof so unless you have adequate insulation the money you are paying for your heating could be escaping without you knowing. But the costs don’t have to run into thousands, you can insulate your loft for as little as just over £100 if you are willing to do the work for yourself. There are lots of easy loft insulation products on the market and with huge DIY stores in most towns you will find it easier to source what you need and if you want to go totally green and go for a recycled source product then the selection online is much larger than it was just four or five years ago. How do you spot if you need more loft insulation? Well just look at your roof on a frosty morning or a snowy day, if the frost or snow is still on your roof then your insulation is fine, but if your roof is bare when the majority of your neighbours roofs are covered then your need to put in insulation. But remember that when you insulate your loft don’t forget your water tanks, pipes and stopcocks and insulate them too. |
